2014 CMS Winter Meeting
McMaster University, December 5 - 8, 2014
CMS Town Hall Meeting and NSERC Update on Institute Innovation Platform Funding
Saturday, December 6, 12:30 - 14:00
The CMS Town Hall meeting and NSERC Update on Institute Innovation Platform Funding will occur on Saturday, December 6, from 12:30 - 14:00. All CMS members and meeting participants are invited to join the CMS Executive and NSERC to engage on upcoming plans and to discuss any interests or concerns that members of our community may have. A light lunch will be provided courtesy of NSERC’s partnership.
Unlike the CMS' AGM that focuses on what was achieved last year, this meeting focuses on what lies ahead. There will be a short
presentation followed by questions and answers. This is an opportunity for participants to get together with the CMS
Executive and discuss emerging issues as well as directly voice their opinions, concerns and interests.
The Canadian Mathematical Society invites you to their awards banquet to highlight exceptional performance in the area of mathematical research and education. Prizes will be awarded during the event. You can browse the first floor exhibitions before the reception, including Painted Hamilton and Jenn E. Norton: Dredging a Wake. The first floor will be open for viewing from 18:00 to 19:00. The reception and banquet will follow with entertainment featuring a talented jazz band from McMaster University. The reception and banquet will be held in the stunning Tanenbaum Pavilion featuring floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Irving Zucker Sculpture Garden.

The CMS Women in Mathematics Committee invites you to a reception on Saturday,
December 6, 2014, from 6 to 7:30pm at the Loft Lounge of the Sheraton Hamilton Hotel.
This informal gathering is an opportunity to meet members of the committee and the CMS
executive and make suggestions for future activities. Students, postdoctoral fellows,
faculty and non-academic professionals are all welcome!
Tensions between mathematics done by mathematicians and that done by life scientists will be explored during
this discussion on the place of calculus in multidisciplinary programs and the future of calculus courses.
