Math occupies a central place in most school curricula, and large swaths of post-secondary curricula as well. Has this always been the case? What have been the aims of mathematics education across time? What are the aims today, and what might they be tomorrow? Answers to these questions depend on your perspective; we'll explore a few possible answers.
