planète Mars? Vaut-il la peine de revoir nos tables de
multiplication? Voilà quelques-unes des questions qui nous
amèneront à apprécier la beauté des mathématiques, leur
utilité et les grands mystères qui les entourent.
L'exposé sera donné en français, mais sera tout de même
accessible aux unilingues anglophones.
This public lecture is about mathematics which will reveal itself as
being entertaining, of fundamental importance, as well as intriguing.
Have you ever listened to the music of the decimals of p? Is it
possible to become a millionaire by doing mathematics? What are the
odds of being all of a sudden teleported to the planet Mars? Should
we revise our traditional multiplication tables? These are some of the
questions which will lead the laymen to appreciate the beauty and
usefulness of mathematics, together with some of its great mysteries.
The lecture will be in French, but the visual effects will make its
understanding much easier.
