[version française ci-dessous]

UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA / UNIVERSITÉ D'OTTAWA
Department of Mathematics and Statistics
Département de mathématiques et de statistique

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of Ottawa invites applications to fill at least one tenure-track position in Statistics at the Assistant or Associate professor level, starting July 1, 2015. We seek a candidate with a proven track-record in research, the ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the desire and ability to supervise graduate students. The ideal candidate will complement our strengths and contribute to one of the strategic areas of our department: biostatistics, financial mathematics or data science. Preference will be given to candidates who will eventually be able to teach in French. The conditions of employment are set by a collective agreement.

The University of Ottawa is home to the Ottawa Heart Institute, a Faculty of Medicine, and the Telfer School of Management. It is a research-intensive university, and is located strategically close to Health Canada, Statistics Canada, the Bank of Canada and other government agencies. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is part of the Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, and is a sponsor of the Fields Institute of Toronto and the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques of Montreal. More information about the department can be found at http://www.mathstat.uottawa.ca/welcome.html.

Applicants should provide a curriculum vitae and a research plan, and arrange for four confidential letters of recommendation, with one addressing teaching, to be submitted through the AMS Mathjobs web site, https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/jobs/6066. Applicants are also encouraged to include up to three of their most significant publications. Applications will be reviewed starting on November 1st, 2014, and until the position is filled.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Equity is a University of Ottawa policy; women, aboriginal peoples, members of visible minorities and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

The University of Ottawa is justly proud of its 150-year tradition of bilingualism. At the time of tenure, professors are expected to have the ability to function in a bilingual environment. Through its Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, the University provides training to staff members and to their spouses in their second official language.
