2013 Sun Life Financial Canadian Open Math Challenge - Nov 6/7

Eligibility for COMC 2013:

The COMC is open to students in all locations, at all grade levels.

To be considered official participants and to qualify for awards or prizes, participants and schools must meet the following requirements:

Official participants:

  1. The participant must be under 19 years of age as of June 30, 2013 and
  2. The participant must be attending school full-time (elementary, secondary, Cégep, or home-schooled) at least since Sept 15, 2013 and
  3. The participant must not have written the Putnam competition.

Additionally, the participation is only considered official if it is proctored and offered under these rules:

  1. In North America, South America, Central America or in time zones covering these areas, the 2½ hour writing period must begin and end on Wednesday, November 6th, between 8AM and 8PM local time.
  2. Elsewhere in the world, the 2½ hour writing period must begin and end on Thursday, November 7th, between 8AM and 8PM local time.
  3. All exams must be proctored by officials who are not family-related to any of the participants they are supervising.

Canadian and International Awards (changed for 2013):

In the COMC (unlike the CMO), all official participants writing from locations in Canada compete for Canadian awards, including the overall national awards, as well as grade-specific and province/region-specific awards. Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residency is no longer a requirement.

Official participants writing from locations outside of Canada (for example, USA or UK or China) compete for International awards, which recognize high achievement independent of grade. Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents writing outside Canada compete for the International awards only, not the Canadian awards.

See our Awards page for more details.

All Participants:

All participants consent to allow the CMS to publish their names and schools when announcing competition results, and to allow the CMS to share their performance results with CMS partner universities for consideration of academic scholarships.
