Small Number and Beyond: Entering Spaces for Aboriginal Learning [PDF]
At a workshop on First Nations Mathematics Education at BIRS in 2007, Veselin Jungic and I wrote the first Small Number story. It was the beginning of an idea to explore the ways in which mathematicians could engage with Elders, teachers, and other members of Aboriginal communities with the goal to improve the math education experiences of Aboriginal students. Today, we are working on our seventh Small Number story and I will talk about the process by which these stories are created and the personal journey of discovery that they represent for me.
