2015 CMS Winter Meeting
McGill University, December 4 - 7, 2015
CMS Town Hall Meeting
Saturday, December 5, 13:00 - 14:30
Saveur, Hyatt Regency Montreal
The CMS Town Hall meeting will occur on Saturday, December 5, from 13:00 - 14:30. All CMS members and meeting participants are invited to join the CMS Executive to engage on upcoming plans and to discuss any interests or concerns that members of our community may have. A light lunch will be provided.
Unlike the CMS' AGM that focuses on what was achieved last year, this meeting focuses on what lies ahead. There will be a short presentation followed by questions and answers. This is an opportunity for participants to get together with the CMS Executive and discuss emerging issues as well as directly voice their opinions, concerns and interests.
NSERC will present a cohesive presentation of Discovery Grants in mathematical sciences, with updates on the Collaborative and Thematic Resources Support in Mathematics and Statistics and the Innovation Platform (both linked to the Mathematics and Statistics communities’ Long Range Plan). It will further provide details describing the progress being made through the Innovation Platform, the opportunities it is creating for building relationships with companies, and how to obtain support for those projects.

Sunday, December 6, 13:00 - 14:30
Saveur, Hyatt Regency, Montreal
McGraw-Hill Education together with University of Manitoba Instructor, Researcher and Guest Speaker - Darja Kalajdzievska - present ALEKS (Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces) Placement, Preparation and Learning (PPL).
A properly administered placement process places students into the courses in which they belong based on the skills that they demonstrate. Proper placement can save institutions and students significant money and can be the key element in student success! Many schools currently place students using standardized test scores, home-grown written or online exams, or other placement products. ALEKS PPL differs from all of these.
Learn more about ALEKS PPL here, and enjoy Lunch on Sunday, December 6 to hear from Darja Kalajdzievska – how the University of Manitoba Reimagined Math Placement with ALEKS
