Réunion d'été SMC 2013
Université Dalhousie, 4 - 7 juin 2013
SMC Assemblée Générale Annuelle
Thursday, June 6, 12:30 - 14:00
The CMS Executive is inviting all CMS members and meeting participants to join them at an informal luncheon to learn what
CMS has planned for 2013 and to discuss any interests or concerns that members of our community may have.
Unlike the AGM that focuses on what was achieved last year, this meeting focuses on what lies ahead.
There will be a short presentation followed by questions and answers. This is an opportunity for participants
to get together with the CMS Executive and discuss emerging issues as well as directly voice their opinions, concerns and interests.
The Shore Club, located in Hubbards, Nova Scotia, was opened in 1946. Now in the third
generation of owners, the Shore Club is the home of the "Original Nova Scotian Lobster
Supper" and is also the "Last of the Great Dance Halls" built after the Second World War.
A CMS coach bus will pick you up at your hotel or Dalhousie University and take you to the Shore
Club to enjoy a traditional Lobster dinner. During the reception, you will enjoy entertainment at
the International Lobster Raceway, where you will be able to race and wager on Lobster Races while
enjoying fresh cultivated mussels from the mussel bar. When you hear a blow of the Old Fog Horn,
you will know that it is time to sit down to enjoy a lobster feast. This feast includes ‘almost
famous’ coleslaw salad, homemade rolls, potato salad, lobsters fresh boiled in ocean water and,
for desert, blueberry shortcake, coffee or tea. Chicken and vegetarian alternatives will also be
made available Space is limited

International Workshop in Combinatorial Algebra
June 1 – 4, 2013
Dalhousie University/Saint Mary's University
Overview:
The aim of this workshop is to discuss the current state of research in several interrelating areas of modern Combinatorial Algebra, with emphasis on the Combinatorics of Commutative Algebras, Groups and Hopf Algebras. The workshop is a satellite event to two special sessions of the 2013 CMS Summer Meeting, which runs from June 4 - 7. These sessions are Commutative Algebra and Combinatorics and Hopf Algebras and Tensor Categories.
The Workshop is organised by Atlantic Algebra Centre (AAC) affiliated to Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN). AAC is supported by MUN and as a Collaborative Research Group by the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences. The workshop will include several 2-hour lectures, 1-hour research talks and a number of shorter research communications. If you would like to participate or give a talk in this workshop, please send an email to aac@mun.ca.
Invited Speakers:
Marcello Aguiar (Texas A&M University)
Yuri Bahturin (Memorial University)
Matej Bresar (University of Ljubljana & Maribor, Slovenia)
Giulio Caviglia (Purdue University)
Vesselin Drensky (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences)
Jurgen Herzog (University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany)
As part of the workshop, an AAC Mini Course with a tentative title Commutative Algebra is
organized by Sara Faridi. The speakers are Jurgen Herzog and Giulio Caviglia, with June 4th being entirely dedicated to the Mini Course.
