My PhD is in physics. I was hired by the Département de mathématiques et de statistique of the Université de Montréal, probably because my thesis used some advanced differential geometry. But my education in mathematics was at best patchy. I will share some of the pleasures and misgivings of learning mathematics while teaching it.
