Do I have to present a
poster to attend? No, you can attend just to listen to
the speakers, attend the courses and sessions, review the research
posters on display and network with the other attendees. However, for
graduate students to receive a travel subsidy, they must present a
poster, deliver a talk, or volunteer during the conference.
I am a Canadian student
attending school outside of Canada. Can I attend? All
students are welcome to attend. However, travel subsidies only apply
to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows studying at a Canadian
university in a field where mathematics plays a key role.
I am a non-Canadian
attending school in Canada. Can I attend? All students
studying in a faculty where mathematics plays a key role are welcome
to attend. Also, you may be eligible for the travel subsidy if you
are presenting a poster, delivering a talk, or volunteering at the
conference. Reimbursements apply to graduate students and
postdoctoral fellows studying at a Canadian university, and who must
travel to attend the conference. Reimbursement forms are available
on-line after the conference. You must supply a letter of support
from your supervisor with your reimbursement application.
I am not a MITACS or CMS
member. Can I attend?
This conference is open to
all - you do not need to be a member to attend. Also, you may be
eligible for the travel subsidy. Reimbursements apply to graduate
students and postdoctoral fellows studying at a Canadian university,
who are presenting a poster, delivering a talk, or volunteering at
the conference, and who must travel to attend. Reimbursement forms
are available on-line after the conference. You must supply a letter
your supervisor stating how you will benefit by attending the
conference.
Do I have to register to
attend? Can I register at the conference? Yes, you must
register to attend. Registration is available on-line www.mitacs.ca
and on-site at the conference. However, in order to ensure proper
planning of conference materials and catering, we encourage all
interested participants to register as early as possible. Note the
early bird discounted registration fee.
Do undergrad students
qualify for reimbursements? The conference reimbursement
policy only applies to graduate or postdoctoral fellows attending a
Canadian university. However, if you are presenting a poster, you
will qualify for the poster subsidy.
When do I submit my
reimbursement claim? Claims must be submitted within
four weeks of the conference date. Claims received after that time
may not qualify for reimbursement. Remember to include all original
receipts, boarding passes, electronic itinerary and a letter from
your supervisor confirming your status as a graduate student or
postdoctoral fellow. Please allow four weeks to receive your
reimbursement cheque. Reimbursement forms are available on-line after
the conference.
How do we submit our
reimbursement claims when we travel in a group and share costs like
renting a car or hotel? We encourage students from the
same school to travel together. Submit all claims and supporting
documentation together with the names of the traveling students.
Reimbursements per student may exceed the maximum allowance outlined
on the website, as cheques will be issued to the student whose name
appears on the receipt. Maximum allowances will be calculated for the
group, rather than per student.
What expenses do the
reimbursement funds cover? Reimbursement funds are in
place to help students attend the conference. This includes travel
and accommodation for the duration of the conference. It does not
include food or "tourist type" expenses such as sightseeing
excursions, personal purchases or extended stay accommodation.
