The University of Bristol is seeking applications for the following three newly established positions:
- Professor/Reader in Algebraic/Arithmetic Geometry (Ref: 15489)
- Professor/Reader in Combinatorics (Ref: 15491)
- Professor/Reader in Probability Theory (Ref: 15493)
These positions form part of the University's strategic expansion in research areas that complement existing strengths in Pure Mathematics and Statistics at Bristol. The successful candidates will be expected to build up and lead a research group of the highest international level.
The School of Mathematics is one of the leading centres for research and teaching in mathematics in the UK. There are groups working in Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), Applied Mathematics ranked third, Pure Mathematics ranked joint fifth and Statistics ranked joint fourth in terms of grade-point average. Furthermore, the School has close links with the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research, which is based in Bristol and runs a co-ordinated series of research programmes, conferences and workshops.
