The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a tenure-track position. The appointment will normally, but not strictly, be at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated starting date is September 1, 2009.

The teaching component of this position is extremely important as the successful candidate is expected to rapidly join the pedagogical team in charge of the many service courses offered to students registered in the various engineering and applied science programs of the Faculty.

This invitation extends to candidates holding a PhD in mathematics or to those near completion.

Responsabilities and selection criteria

  1. The candidate should demonstrate exceptional pedagogical abilities and a strong interest for teaching service courses to large groups of engineering students, as well as teaching specialized courses to mathematics students.1

  2. The candidate should be able to initiate an autonomous research program for which he or she will be able to obtain NSERC funding. Preference will be given to candidates in the field of algebra.

All candidates fulfilling the above criteria are encouraged to apply. However, it should be noted that, according to canadian immigration requirements, Canadians and permanent residents must be given priority. The salary and rank will be determined in accordance to the collective agreement. According to its equal opportunity program, Université Laval reserves half the vacant positions for the appointment of women.

Applicants should also ask three referees to send letters of reference to the address below.
