The department of
Mathematics and Statistics
invites applications for a
full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor
beginning August 1, 2019, subject to budgetary approval. Interested
individuals who currently hold a rank higher than Assistant are also
encouraged to apply, as the Dean may take into account the successful
candidate's current position and experience.
We are seeking collegial, energetic and innovative individuals who have an outstanding ability to teach at the undergraduate level and to communicate effectively with students both in and out of the classroom. The successful candidate must be able to instruct across a broad range of the undergraduate statistics curriculum. There may be graduate level teaching opportunities in the future. The ideal candidate will be able to develop new and innovative programs and courses, apply technology in the delivery of our programs and courses, and integrate his or her research or scholarly activity into teaching.
While we are primarily a teaching-oriented university and department, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain a program of scholarly activity or research, preferably one which involves students, or is community-linked, and to commit to participation and engagement in professional development activity at the institution and/or in the community. The ideal candidate will also have a strong commitment to service within the department, the university at large and the community.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Statistics, or one near completion. UFV is focussing on growing the areas of agriculture, health sciences, environmental studies and digital media communications, while the Department of Mathematics and Statistics has a Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Data Analysis and an Applied Statistics Minor. Applicants with academic experience in any area will be considered, but preference will be given to those with a background in Applied Statistics whose expertise supports any of these areas. Preference will also be given to applicants with statistical consulting experience in academia and/or industry.

Candidates should submit curriculum vitae; evidence of teaching excellence
including (if available) student evaluations; one-page statement of
teaching philosophy including (if available) examples of innovative
approaches to teaching and course design; one-page statement of proposed
research program or scholarly activity; one-page summary of statistics
courses taken at undergraduate and graduate level; and names and contact
information for three referees. Applications, citing Posting 2018.236
