The Faculty of Science has distinguished itself by developing a distinctive leadership niche in both research and teaching as well as innovation through its four founding departments of Chemistry and Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. Promoting an innovative, interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial approach to science, the Faculty has more than 90 full-time faculty members and 3,000 undergraduate students enrolled in a variety of unique programmes that incorporate hands-on learning and co-op options. More than 200 students at the master's and doctoral levels participate in a robust culture of interdisciplinary scholarship, research, innovation and critical analysis through programmes in biomedical physics, computer science, mathematics, and molecular science. As the academic and administrative leader of the Faculty of Science, the Dean reports to the Provost and Vice President Academic as part of Ryerson's senior administration. Responsible for all aspects of the Faculty's operations, the Dean of Science will be a leader with strong achievements in research, teaching, scholarly activities and service, demonstrated administrative and management capabilities in a collegial university setting, and experience in budget management and resource allocation. Committed to interdisciplinary teaching and research and the success of all students, faculty and staff, the Dean will be an excellent communicator and advocate for the Faculty. The Dean will provide vision, strategy and strong leadership to facilitate and enhance the endeavours of the Faculty through an open and collegial style, outstanding management and interpersonal skills, and a creative approach to problem-solving. Experience building diverse and collaborative teams, developing new and innovative programmes and facilities, relating to a range of internal and external partners, and an interest in, or experience with, fundraising will be important assets in this role.
