The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Alberta invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Algebra and Geometry. An appointment at a higher level may be possible under exceptional circumstances. The Department offers an excellent research environment with a normal teaching load of two-and-a-half courses per year.

We seek an individual who complements the Department's existing strength by the use of algebraic and/or geometric methods in their research. Preferential consideration will be given to applicants whose research is of interest to the members of the Algebra and Geometry group. Examples (not a comprehensive list) of such areas are: Algebraic groups and related topics, automorphic forms, derived categories in algebraic geometry, infinite-dimensional Lie theory, K-theory, mathematical physics and mirror symmetry.

The successful candidate will establish their own research program, supervise graduate students and teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Applicants will have a PhD degree or international equivalent, demonstrated accomplishments and outstanding promise in research as well as a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching.
