College of Physical and Engineering Science
The successful candidate will teach and coordinate the activities of the Mathematics and Statistics Learning Centre. Specific responsibilities will include: Teaching 4 undergraduate courses per year in mathematics or statistics including preparing and delivering lectures, setting and grading examinations, constructing assignments and advising students; Developing course materials related to first and second year courses including working with faculty to develop lecture or assignment manuals, creating banks of multiple choice questions, integrating computer software into courses to complement lectures or assignments, working with faculty and the Office of Open Learning to develop web based distance education courses; Coordinating the activities of the Mathematics and Statistics Learning Centre including training, scheduling, supervising and providing academic support to teaching assistants, ensuring excellence in the delivery of teaching support within the Learning Centre, organizing and delivering training sessions for teaching assistants, facilitating the provision and maintenance of support materials (textbooks, solution manuals, assignments, examinations) and providing routine maintenance of computing software and hardware in the Learning Centre.
Requirements of the position: Masters degree in Mathematics or Statistics plus some relevant teaching experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of web page design and of Maple, S-Plus and SAS. They should demonstrate an understanding of university policies, procedures and collective agreements as they relate to students, possess excellent organization and communication skills and be able to exercise sound judgment, tact, diplomacy and effectiveness working as a supervisor and as a teacher.
Classification: PO5*
Normal Hiring Range: $43,978 - $49,540 per annum
