OTTAWA, Ontario — The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is pleased to announce the creation of a national partnership of universities from across Canada to stage and develop Canada’s premier high school mathematics competition – the Sun Life Financial Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC).

The COMC is now being supported by a university in each province across Canada and this network partnership is expected to provide both students and teachers with a more accessible and interesting competition.

“To have a partner in each province is really important to the CMS,” said Bill Sands, Chair of the CMS Competitions Committee. "It helps us better understand what interests both students and teachers across Canada.”

The CMS started to build the partnership network in 2011 with just five universities and this year the network has grown to twelve universities, as well as corporate partners.

With title sponsorship from Sun Life Financial, the COMC, the Repêchage and the Canadian Mathematical Olympiad (CMO) are Canada's prestigious national math competitions that lead to the annual CMS selection of students for Math Team Canada to compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
