Nicholas Jackiw - Taking dynamic geometry on-line

This session will investigate educational and technical issues surrounding JavaSketchpad, a prototype web-based version of The Geometer's Sketchpad which emerged from research into pen-based mathematical modeling software. The software and some examples of its use shall be demonstrated, and the author will discuss both the specific technical difficulties and mathematical questions posed by its ``dynamic geometry'' paradigm; and more generally, the Internet's current position within the technology landscape of secondary mathematics education.
