On the effectiveness of operator-valued free probability theory  [PDF]

This is a story about the surprising effectiveness of a quite abstract subject, namely operator-valued free probability theory, for very concrete and applied problems, namely the calculation of asymptotic eigenvalue distributions of random matrices.
