Mihar Putinar and Harold S. Shapiro - The Friedrichs operator of a planar domain

The Friedrichs operator of a planar domain

K. Friedrichs has interpreted some basic problems in plane elasticity theory into spectral problems of an antilinear operator (now called the Friedrichs operator), acting on the Bergman space of a bounded planar domain. We will discuss how the spectrum of the Friedrichs operator reflects the geometry of the domain; the corresponding inverse spectral problem will be shown to have incomplete data. Some related aspects of function theory and operator theory in the Bergman space of a planar domain will be also presented.
