An overview of the matroid minors project

The graph minors project of Robertson and Seymour is a sequence of
more than 20 papers that resolves some of the deepest and most
surprising results in graph theory. In collaboration with Bert
Gerards (The Netherlands) and Geoff Whittle (New Zealand), we hope to
extend these results from graphs to matrices over a finite field.
This talk provides an overview of the main conjectures as well as some
of the potential applications. The talk is intended to be accessible
to a general math audience.
