\u00a0The Canadian Mathematical Society (<\/span>CMS<\/a>)\u00a0<\/span>invites the mathematical community to the 2020 CMS Winter Meeting from December 3-8. All meeting activities are taking place virtually. Five days of awards, mini courses, prize lectures, plenary speakers, and scientific sessions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) has decided that the 2020 Winter Meeting will take place virtually from December 3-8, 2020.\u00a0<\/p> The 2020 CMS Winter meeting will be connecting our mathematical community online. Everything will take place on a single platform where you can jump effortlessly between sessions, community discussions and virtual lounges. If you are familiar with Zoom you will be able to easily participate in our plenaries, sessions, and panels.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p> The virtual platform will be available on your web browser or mobile device. You do not need to download the app to access the platform on your web browser.<\/p> If you register, you will be sent an email before the meeting containing your code to access the 2020 CMS Virtual Winter Meeting.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t Get our official conference app<\/a>, <\/p> Get the most out of the app and have a more productive experience!<\/p> 1 <\/p> NAVIGATE<\/b> the event agenda and logistics, even without Wi-Fi or data. That said, we may have found new and innovative ways to cover our curriculum and engage students. Sometimes, online teaching helps us to think differently about our in-person teaching as well. In this panel, we will look at what we have learned from the transition to online teaching. We will highlight ideas that have worked well and share learning we will take into our future in-person classes. We will have time for conversation and questions.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t Are you a member of an underrepresented group and want to share your experiences in a supportive and safe environment?\u00a0 Are you curious about how to be an ally and proactive supporter of EDI<\/span> within the mathematical sciences but are not sure where to start?\u00a0 Or maybe you are already an ally with constructive advice to share?\u00a0\u00a0 Or perhaps you just want to unwind, meet others, and hear what is on people’s minds?\u00a0\u00a0 If your answer to any of these questions is yes<\/b>, then please drop by our EDI<\/span> sessions!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t Please join us in our breakout room after the Covid-19 panel discussion!\u00a0 We will introduce and discuss a thought-provoking letter written by members of the association for European Women in Mathematics on proactive steps that universities can take to address the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on underrepresented and marginalized groups in the mathematical sciences. (https:\/\/www.europeanwomeninmaths.org\/ewm-open-letter-on-the-covid-19-pandemic\/<\/a>)<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Please join us in our breakout rooms!\u00a0 We will host two parallel rooms, one dedicated to challenges faced by parents of young children<\/b><\/i> (particularly during Covid) <\/i>and one dedicated to challenges faced by mathematicians from underrepresented groups<\/b> (again with a focus on Covid)<\/i>.\u00a0 Please feel free to join one or both!\u00a0 Some of the discussion will be used to inform the lengthier panel discussion at 5:00 pm.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Please join us for our evening panel session! The panel will feature moderators from the breakout rooms, who will report on their impressions as a catalyzing further discussion as to the challenges people are facing and the supports that they need. Feel free to join even if you weren’t at the earlier breakout rooms. We aim for spirited discussion and encourage everyone to let their voices be heard.
