The School of Science and the Environment at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University in Corner Brook, Newfoundland invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Mathematics/Statistics commencing August 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related discipline. Duties will include teaching a range of courses, undertaking an active research program, and contributing to academic service and community engagement activities. Teaching responsibilities have an undergraduate focus and include introductory and upper year courses within a B.Sc. in Computational Mathematics (https://www.grenfell.mun.ca/academics-and-research/Pages/school-of-science-and-the-environment/programs/Computational-Mathematics.aspx), an interdisciplinary B.Sc. in General Science (https://www.grenfell.mun.ca/academics-and-research/Pages/school-of-science-and-the-environment/programs/General-Science.aspx), a Minor in Mathematics, and math/statistics courses which support programs in other disciplines, including Business, Engineering and Nursing. Previous teaching experience at the university level is expected. Candidates with the ability to teach and develop upper-level courses in areas such as mathematical modelling, statistics, optimization or mathematical computation, are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant would be expected to seek external research funding. Supervision of undergraduate and graduate students within an active, externally funded research program is encouraged. Mathematics faculty members at Grenfell may supervise or co-supervise students in interdisciplinary graduate programs on this campus as well as in the MSc and PhD programs in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the St. John's campus of Memorial University. Scientists from provincial and federal agencies are located on campus or in the immediate vicinity offering further local opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaboration.
