The University of Saskatchewan is a leading Canadian medical-doctoral research university with thirteen colleges and an extensive array of programs. It is the home of the Canadian Light Source, a new state-of-the-art synchrotron which is Canada's largest scientific project. Strongly supported by the University, the Department of Mathematics & Statistics is committed to renewal and transformation, and to development of innovative research and teaching programs in support of the University's strategic directions. The Department of Mathematics & Statistics in the College of Arts and Science offers Ph.D., M.Sc., and M.Math. programs, as well as highly rated B.Sc. programs (Honours and majors) in Mathematics and in Statistics, and, jointly with the Department of Physics, an Honours B.Sc. in Mathematical Physics. Three departmental units, Mathematics, Statistics, and Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, are subject to the overall authority of the Department Head. The Head is responsible for leadership of the Department, including strategic planning, academic development, advancement activities, linkages with the broader community, and effective use of the Department's financial, administrative, and human resources. The successful candidate will be an experienced, effective, and visionary leader who is a strong relationship builder, a clear and articulate communicator, and a knowledgeable advocate for Mathematics & Statistics. While remaining an active scholar, the appointee will be responsible for forging and sustaining a strategic vision consistent with the mission of the University (see http://www.usask.ca/vpacademic/integrated-planning/plandocs/strategic_directions.php ). To assure the continuing provision of high quality education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and an innovative research environment, the new head will guide recruitment into a significant number of vacancies through departmental renewal over the next 5 years.
A capacity for outstanding academic leadership is essential. Candidates should have a record of scholarship that is appropriate for appointment as a tenured full professor of Mathematics and Statistics.
