Lakehead University
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Lakehead University invites applications from strong candidates for two tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level to begin August 1, 1999. One position will be in area of probability and statistics, and the other in any area of mathematics. Applicants must have completed (or nearly completed) a PhD and have demonstrated ability, or the potential, for excellence in research and effective teaching in both the undergraduate and the graduate levels. The Department is particularly interested in broadly-based individuals who are able to give a variety of courses in the spectrum of our course offerings.
To support our proposed PhD programme in the mathematical sciences the successful candidate for both positions is likely an individual who will be successful in obtaining external research funding; and in the mathematics position, a candidate whose research area is closely related to at least one of the research areas of our existing faculty members in the department is highly desirable. These appointments are subject to final budgetary approval.
Interested candidates should submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and the names and addresses (& e-mail address) of three referees to: Dr. D. Kemp, Acting Dean of Arts and Science, Lakehead University, 955 Oliver Road, Thunder Bay, Ontario, P7B 5E1
To expedite handling of applications, candidates should ask those named as references to direct supporting letters to the same address. At least one reference should comment on teaching ability. The Department will begin to consider applications as soon as they are complete and will continue until the positions are filled. In accordance with Canadian Immigration regulation, this advertisement is directed to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Lakehead University is committed to employment equity and encourage applications from women, members of visible minorities, aboriginal peoples, and persons with disabilities.
