The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure-track instructor position in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, to start on or after 1^st July 2020.

Duties include undergraduate and possibly graduate teaching in Actuarial Science and Statistics.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD or MSc or equivalent in Actuarial Science or in a closely-related area, and will have good communication skills, and a demonstrated commitment to quality teaching. They will also hold a professional actuarial designation (Associate or Fellow) or be actively working towards such in the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, Society of Actuaries, or Casualty Actuarial Society.

The Actuarial Science program at the University of Calgary is one of the largest in Western Canada. It encompasses both an undergraduate degree and a (new) Actuarial Science specialization in our graduate (MSc and PhD) programs. The University of Calgary is fully accredited by the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

The successful candidate will have opportunities for professional development through the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning, as well as becoming part of a vibrant group of instructors in Mathematics and Statistics. There will also be opportunities to work with researchers in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, and Mathematical Finance, and more widely with data science researchers across campus.

Evidence for excellence in teaching may comprise positive teaching accomplishments and accolades, strong letters of reference and teaching evaluations, and a teaching dossier. Evidence of a professional actuarial designation or active progress towards such may comprise details about the designation achieved, or requirements towards such achieved to date.
